London by L.N.E.R Park Art Print
‘London by LNER’, LNER poster, 1933. This 1930's poster was produced for London & North Eastern Railway (LNER) to promote rail travel to London. The poster shows a crowd of elegantly-dressed people on Rotten Row in Hyde Park, London in 1895. ‘Rotten Row’ is a corruption of ‘Route du Roi’ (‘The King’s Route’), so called because William III (reigned 1689-1702) used to ride along this bridle path on his journeys between Kensington and Westminster. Rotten Row was the first public road in England to be illuminated at night and was very fashionable in the 19th century. Artwork by Anna Katrina Zinkeisen, who studied at the Royal Academy Schools where she won bronze and silver medals. She designed posters for LNER and Southern Railway
